Whipping another mob or player will cause. They are used to temporary increase the speed of saddled pigs, and horses. For the pig, the player has to point the carrot on a stick down and rapidly right click on the pig with the whip, and then switch back to the carrot on a stick.

For horses it's different. They just need a single whip, and then they go. Once whipped, they will start to go faster than normal speed once switched back to the carrot on a stick. They can also be used to speed up horses better either when in a Horse Wagon, or just riding the Horse itself. Whips can also be used as a weapon, however it will not take that much damage. A whip has 24 uses, and each use of the whip will consume its durability.

Any tamed mobs within at least a 10 block radius will automatically sit after the whip is used; whipping the ground around the mobs listed below will cause all stationary mobs to begin moving, and all mobs that have not been commanded to sit to remain stationary. If used on a unicorn, it will gain the ability to charge and ram at things. This lasts for about 10 seconds, afterwards the unicorn will move slowly as it recharges.
