While Kevin is a huge Marvel fan, he also loves Batman because he's Batman and is a firm believer that Han shot first. Disney also shares a big part of his fan patronage. A Green Lantern can also use their ring to alter their clothing and enhance their physicality. Not wishing his duties as Green Lantern to disrupt his personal life and career, Hal has added a mask to his uniform. This, along with the bright green halo that surrounds a Lantern while using their power rings, obscures his features enough to keep his identity secret.

Only Oan technology and beings like the Guardians have been able to properly repair a broken power ring. For years Green Lantern rings seemed unable to affect anything colored yellow, the color of fear. But Lanterns eventually learned that if they accepted their own capacity for fear, they could also handle yellow-colored threats. In past years power rings automatically ran out of energy 24 hours after they were charged, regardless of the degree of use.

Now the charge remains or vanishes depending on how often the ring is used and how much energy the ring bearer calls forth. Each Green Lantern has a personal battery for charging their ring. These batteries, shaped like lanterns, can be hidden in a pocket dimension until their owners summon them with their rings. Throughout this era, both on his own and as a member of the Justice League, Hal fought a variety of Earthborn Super-Villains and outer-space menaces.

He became friends with Barry Allen, a. Though seemingly executed by the Guardians by being converted into energy, Krona returned several times to plague the Corps.

Sinestro Thaal had been a trusted friend to Abin Sur. But Sinestro had since become corrupt, seizing control of his own planet in order to ensure order through fear. Hal and the Corps turned on him, and he was put on trial for his actions and exiled to the antimatter universe of Qward, home to an alien race waging perpetual war with the Guardians and the Corps.

Sinestro allied with the Qwardians and, with their help, gained a yellow ring that seemed to absorb power from Green Lantern rings. Carol Ferris would also emerge as an enemy to Hal, though against her will.

Carol later regained her mind, but over the years she would repeatedly be taken over by the Star Sapphire identity. Hal left Ferris Aircraft and for years worked a series of different jobs, among them an insurance claims investigator, a truck driver and a toy salesman.

During this time, an encounter with his former Justice League teammate Oliver Queen, a. Hal agreed to join Green Arrow on a road trip, resulting in a string of adventures across America. Over time they became strong friends despite often disagreeing with each other. He also decided to resign from the Corps in order to resume a normal life on Earth with Carol Ferris at his side. Later, however, Carol and Hal once again broke off their romance.

During this time, Arisia and Hal dated. This Earth-based Corps soon suffered a tragedy. Unbeknownst to Hal, the voice of this yellow impurity belonged to a creature called Parallax, the living embodiment of the yellow, fear-based power of the emotional spectrum. Secretly imprisoned within the Central Power Battery by the Guardians, Parallax stirred awake when Sinestro began using his fear-empowered ring. Hal continued his adventures on Earth.

The hero become more hesitant, more prone to introspection and doubt, and his hair started graying prematurely. A rogue Green Lantern, Universo , was briefly shown to exist in the future epoch of the Legion of Super-Heroes , but multiple retcons have long since eliminated this possible future. Two of the most important rebels were Sinestro, the rogue Green Lantern, and Hal Jordan, driven insane over the loss of his home, Coast City , and possession by Parallax.

The Green Lantern Corps ranks were decimated by Hal Jordan during his madness, its power source, the Main Battery, extinguished; and Oa destroyed, removing the original power source for the rings.

After the fall of the Corps, other organizations tried to fill in the power vacuum left by the Guardians. Two organizations had initial notable successes; the Darkstars and L. However neither ever achieved the power and reach of the Green Lantern Corps. Recently Oa was reconstructed by Hal Jordan's old sidekick Tom Kalmaku , and shortly thereafter Kyle Rayner , the last remaining Green Lantern, resurrected the Guardians as children using the power Parallax had stolen.

The resurrections did not stop there. It was discovered that Hal Jordan had committed his crimes while possessed by the ancient fear parasite Parallax. Parallax had been imprisoned within the Central Power Battery for billions of years and is the mysterious "Yellow Impurity" within the Corps' green light that leaves them vulnerable against yellow. Once Parallax had been exorcised, the now adult Guardians re-imprisoned Parallax. With that, the Guardians continued the re-construction and expansion of the Corps.

The new Corps, under the training of Kilowog , Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner and other veterans, was primarily filled by new recruits. Only a handful of veteran Lanterns are back in the ranks. Each sector will have two Lanterns assigned to protect it.

Due to an ancient pact with the Spider Guild the Vega star system is off limits to all members of the Corps. With sectors and two Green Lanterns per sector, it will be many years before the Corps regains its former strength. It presently lacks both the manpower and the political influence it once had due to its years-long absence from many sectors. This has left it currently unable to intervene in situations it might have before Parallax destroyed the old Corps, including conflicts such as the Rann-Thanagar War.

The Guardians remain staunchly uninvolved in what they see as a conflict that could destabilize many sectors, but that has not stopped Kyle Rayner and Kilowog from helping refugees. Despite these difficulties, the Corps played a key role in defeating Superboy-Prime. Several Lanterns were killed slowing the renegade Superboy's advance on Oa, a sacrifice that enabled Earth's most powerful heroes to execute their plan to restrain him.

Mogo , the sentient planet and Corps member, positioned himself to act as a final battleground between Superboy-Prime and the two Supermen. The Corps took responsibility for imprisoning Superboy-Prime, incarcerating him inside a small red Sun-Eater with fifty Green Lanterns on constant guard duty.

As of the "One Year Later" timeframe, the Green Lantern Corps has increased its numbers, with many former trainees now full-fledged officers. The lack of truly experienced GLs remains an issue, with Guy Gardner being called upon often to assist the rookies.

The transformation of Kyle Rayner to Ion also holds unknown ramifications for the future of the Corps. Dubbed the " Sinestro Corps ", it recruits beings capable of generating great fear. As the Sinestro Corps' campaign of terror spreads, the Guardians, in desperation, rewrite the first Law of Ten in the Book of Oa , enabling the remaining Lanterns to use lethal force. Following the Sinestro Corps War, the Guardians, under the leadership of the Scar , began taking new measures to prevent the Blackest Night from occurring.

The Guardians established the Alpha-Lantern Corps as an internal affairs force to investigate any abuses of power or dereliction of duty. The Alpha Lanterns were subjected to invasive surgery that essentially made them Lantern Manhunter hybrids.

Following this, the Guardians authorized lethal force against all enemies of the Green Lantern Corps. Meanwhile, Qwardian rings continued to search for new bearers across the galaxy, one of which made their way to Mongul II. He tried to take over the Sinestro Corps in their time of weakness.

A team of Lanterns under Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner, on a search for the remaining Qwardian rings, discovered Mongul and managed to defeat him, leaving him for dead, though he escaped soon after.

At the same time, the Guardians were aware of the Zamarons experiments into the Violet light to form the Star Sapphires. After a failed diplomatic mission, the Guardians established a new rule forbidding romantic relationships between members of the Green Lantern Corps. One day, when Jordan had to take time off to get his ring fixed on Oa, Gardner would finally have an opportunity to be the Green Lantern. Tragically, the adventure ends with Gardner apparently being disintegrated.

Thinking Gardner was dead, Jordan swooped in and consoled Limbo. The two developed such deep feelings that they almost were married but the wedding was interrupted when Gardner reached out from the Phantom Zone still with me?

Some craziness with General Zod occurred, but Jordan was eventually able to rescue poor Gardner. Enter: Crisis on Infinite Earths! Gardner escapes from his coma and was officially made a Green Lantern of Earth. The biggest change was during the launch of the New 52 when much of everything above was retconned out. However, Rebirth might have erased most of the retcon except for the addition of an abusive father?

Gardner will often choose fists over talking it out. He can short-tempered. Yet, under the gruff, well-worn surface, Gardner can be a big softie. Unlike Jordan, Gardner is more likely to be a team player. Green Lantern John Stewart 1st Appearance. After Guy Gardner was hit by a bus, the Guardians of the Universe needed to select a new backup Lantern, thus, they gave us possibly the popularly best known Green Lantern of the mid-aughts, John Stewart.

That honor goes to Mal Duncan who joined the Teen Titans in However, Stewart was definitely one of the most prominent and important recurring black superheroes. He forced Jordan and the readers to look inward at their own racial prejudices. His storylines often bravely tackled some of the hottest political topics of the day. When Jordan finally put down his ring for real this time!

A former Marine and architect, Stewart is straight-laced and no-nonsense. Green Lantern Kyle Rayner 1st Appearance.

In , Coast City was destroyed and it drove Hal Jordan insane retconned to being the result of Jordan being infected by an entity of the fear spectrum known as Parallax. The Lantern slaughtered most of the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians of the Universe later retconned to not have been slaughtered in an attempt to gain enough power to rebuild his home city and bring back his loved ones. In a last-ditch effort, the Guardian Ganthet traveled to Earth and gave a power ring to Rayner.

He had big shoes to fill and no none to train him. He sees the best in people which often gets him in trouble.
