Shirreffs has far from given up on him and is looking to place him in a longer race. Another hall of famer, Gary Stevens, has picked up the mount. Smith has been around Ziconic a lot, starting when the colt was a weanling, and has seen him develop.

There is little research to support the widely held belief that horses grieve the loss of a foal or of a companion horse. She helped enthuse a younger generation about the sport. She has been in foal eight times since her retirement to a broodmare career. Each of her pairings have been royal.
